The Adelaide Cup long weekend in South Australia saw West Adelaide face two matches in just over 48 hours, and both finished with a 3-1 victory to Hellas, which sees them stamp their presence on the top of the table.

Aloisi’s men travelled to Seaford Rangers on Saturday, and through some good play by the hosts, found themselves conceding an early goal. Despite Hellas’ open attacking play – they were unable to breach the defence and went into half time 1-0 down.

The second half told a different story, with Faustin Machochi being bought down in the box, and Matthew Kemp converting the penalty for the equaliser. Jordan Spadavecchia was also lively, and was on hand to convert the second of the day to give the visitors a 1-2 lead. It was left to youngster Anthony Trimboli to put the game beyond doubt and calmly slot the ball past the Seaford keeper to give West Adelaide a solid win.

After a brief recovery on the Sunday at Henley Beach, West Adelaide had to back it up in the searing Adelaide heat on Monday against Southern outfit, The Cove. Due to hot weather restrictions, the game had been pushed back later than usual.

From the outset Hellas were in clear control of the fixture. Striker Harry Skoumbros continued his fine start to the season by sending the ball into the net to give the hosts an early lead, followed by goals from Dimitri Toumazos and Eli Vlassis. As is the case for the fourth game straight, The Cove pulled back a late goal to make the final score 3-1.

West Adelaide top the NPL State League table by two points, and will look to consolidate their great start to the season over the coming weeks.
