West Adelaide Hellas recorded a convincing 10-0 win over the weekend to further extend their lead at the top of the table.
With the league leaders drawn to play the hapless Gawler Eagles, senior coach Ross Aloisi wanted to take the opportunity to continue to refine his attacking system, however not at the expense of three points.
With a largely unchanged squad, Hellas went into the match confident yet focused on the task at hand.
In the opening stanza, it was West Adelaide who predictably came out and dominated the possession and pressed to find an early goal.
However it was livewire Faustin Machochi who blazed wide, to be followed by the enigmatic Harry Skoumbros who was also denied by the Eagles’ custodian.
At the 35th minute, it was left back Michael Alexandrou who was on hand to calmly slot the ball in the back of the net from a finely taken shot just outside of the 18-yard box. 5 minutes later, it was again Alexandrou who put Hellas 2-0 up heading into the rooms at half time.
Not overly pleased with the spurned chances in the first half, Aloisi’s message at the break was clear; attack with intent and be ruthless in front of goals.
After making some strategic changes, it appeared to have the desired effect with Dimitri Toumazos on hand to extend the lead, whilst classy midfielder Tom Guttormsen also converted well from a free kick just outside the box.
It was then Jordan Spadavecchia’s moment to insert himself into the game, and when called upon converted 3 chances to earn his first hat-trick for Hellas.
At the tender age of seventeen, Anthony Trimboli continued to impress yet again by converting, and the ever-reliable Matthew Kemp was on hand to slot the ball into the top right corner.
In an eight goal second half blitz, it left West Adelaide Hellas with a well earned victory, and they will look to take that form into round six against Eastern United, and continue their impressive start to the season, in their quest to win promotion into the South Australian National Premier League.
