Paul Karavias has been nominated at Box Hill Institute for Student of the Year in the Pre-Apprentice category. Paul is at the institute studying a Certificate II in Automotive Studies (Pre-Vocational).
Learning something new with every lesson is what kept Paul excited about his Certificate II in Automotive Studies.
“I’ve liked everything about the course because I’ve always been interested in cars. I really liked the practical side and getting to experience the ‘real thing’. But I’ve even enjoyed the theory work too. The safety aspects were also really useful. I just tried to learn as much as I could,” he said.
Paul has used his Pre-Apprenticeship over the summer holidays to build up his experience with the aim to successfully gain an automotive apprenticeship in the future.
“Over the holidays I did some work experience with a mechanic and I was able to use everything I had learnt at Box Hill Institute, and the mechanic was really surprised that I knew as much as I did. I’d feel a lot more confident about approaching people to do an apprenticeship once I finish school now,” said Paul.
When not concentrating on his automotive ambitions, Paul helps at his local Greek school as a teacher’s aid for the Grade Ones.
