A new Consul General for Greece in Melbourne will arrive before the end of 2020.
According to information acquired by Neos Kosmos, the current Consul General, Mr Dimitrios Michalopoulos had requested for his tenure in Melbourne to be terminates and to return to Greece upon the completion of a three year service.
Mr Michalopoulos has confirmed that his request was approved and he will be seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.
Mr Emmanuel Kakavelakis, currently serving as Consul General for Greece in Alexandria, Egypt, will be succeeding Mr Michalopoulos in Melbourne.
Mr Kakavelakis told local network ekalexandria.org that he is beyond excited to be coming to Melbourne, home to the third largest Greek community worldwide.
With him, the new Consul General for Greece in Australia, brings experience acquired through different roles in Nigeria, Lisbon, Tirana and Beirut, to name a few.
