Olympiakos has completely dominated Greek volleyball this year as its sweep of all five trophies in men and women for the first time in the club’s history, with the men’s triumph in the Volley League championship last week.

The men of coach Dimitris Kazazis won the final series against surprise package Pamvochaikos with 3-1 victories after defeating the side from northern Peloponnese 3-0 sets at Vrachati last week.

The Reds ruled in the regular season and swept past Ethnikos Alexandroupolis in the semifinals of the play-offs with a 3-0 score, only to stumble against Pamvochaikos in Game 1 of the best-of-five series.

The well-organized Vrachati side, based near Corinth, was only in its second season in the top flight when last Monday it beat Olympiakos 3-0 in Piraeus in the series’s opening match.

That served as a wake-up call for Olympiakos, who scored three wins in last week to claim back its crown from Iraklis.

The Reds added the league title to the trophies they had won in the Greek Cup final against Finikas Syrou and in the League Cup “Nikos Samaras” final against Kifissia.

The women’s team also won their league for the first time in its history, and did the double by defeating AEK in the cup final.

All this comes for Olympiakos as archrival Panathinaikos suffered relegation to the men’s A2 division for the first time ever, and former champion Iraklis is running a serious risk of demotion, too, due to financial irregularities.
