AHEPA Victoria Second Annual Scholarships Ceremony was hosted last Sunday, awarding the best and brightest students of AHEPA who completed Year 12 in 2012.
This year, the Scholarships Ceremony was extended to non-AHEPA members who are students of Modern Greek at the Universities of Monash, RMIT and La Trobe.
The top AHEPA Scholarship of $1000 was awarded to Paula Oude-Vrielink. The 2nd Scholarship of $500 was awarded to Marialena Michanetzi, a member of AHEPA youth, whose heart-wrenching story of integration in Australia after only migrating just over a year ago and completing her VCE with ATAR of 98.95, left the entire audience in tears. The third placed scholarship recipients were Achilleas Youth members, Treasurer Ross Katsambanis and PR Officer Anna Vassiliadis. Adam Jones, grandson of an AHEPA member Marie Comino, was also awarded with a $200 general scholarship.
The Ceremony, presented by His Excellency the Greek Ambassador, Mr Charalambos Dafaranos, and his wife, Mrs Eyvah T. Dafaranos, was organised by the State AHEPA Education & Cultural Committee.
