Border restrictions between Victorian and NSW will be lifted at the end of the month, just in time for school holidays and Christmas.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said this is a “calculated risk” and a “step in the right direction”.
This is the first time that free travel between states will take place since 8 July.
The new rules will apply from Monday, 23 November, and at that time all border permits and quarantine requirements will be drawn.
Ms Berejiklian said it is up to other states to decide whether people from Victoria will be able to pass through NSW to enter those areas.
The decision was made following consecutive days of zero cases in Victoria, lessening the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The date 23 November was decided following the expectation that the ‘ring of steel’ would lift between Melbourne and regional Victoria on 8 November.
