The closure of ERT has had a definite impact on Australia’s media landscape, with SBS now having to source content from Athens based network Antenna Pacific for its World Watch international news service.
Radio will also be affected as content from ERT was used as part of the Greek language program on SBS. Although the radio program features heavily on Australian news for its listeners, some content from ERT was used to provide Greek Australians with news from the Hellenic Republic.
Greek is one of 74 languages on the SBS Radio network, with a daily two-hour program broadcast between four and six in the afternoon, on analogue radio and digital platforms.
