The nation’s leaders have formed a new agreement to open up borders for interstate travel by Christmas.

Western Australia will go ahead with easing some restrictions, however those coming from Victoria and New South Wales will still have to quarantine upon arrival.

International travel bubbles are still being looked into, but prime minister Scott Morrison noted this will not go ahead before the end of 2020.

“We have a process where we’re investigating other countries that could potentially be considered low-risk… but we have not made that decision at this point,” he said.

The prime minister stressed the importance of following COVID-safe measures such as venue check-ins and social distancing will have to be accepted as normal practice for the time being.

“By staying safely open you’re giving confidence to businesses, to people in jobs, to people who are making decisions about their future and what they’re going to do,” Mr Morrison said.

The news comes as a great addition to South Australia announcing it will be welcoming Victorians once again from 1 December.
