Through hard work and determination Sophia Amiridis has successfully changed the speed limit on Dunne Street – reducing it from 60km/h to 50km/h.
Following the death of a close friend in a road accident, Sophia stepped up her involvement in public affairs, starting the Kingsbury Project in an attempt to improve road safety in the area.
Sophia’s commitment has seen her involved in a number of projects including the re-surfacing of roads, the re-lining of streets and changing parking requirements, allowing for an easier flow of traffic.
The philanthropist’s contribution does not stop there, with plans for a new children’s health care initiative, helping children from underprivileged backgrounds; along with a project starting mid-June to improve the local community park.
Sophia’s latest venture is a fundraising art exhibition, which will be held in October later this year. The exhibition will display some of Sophia’s personal art work, with all funds raised going to the Butterfly Foundation, an organisation promoting awareness and helping sufferers of anorexia.
The Old Firestation Exhibition will run from 1-13 October 2013 at 378 High Street, Preston, Victoria. The opening launch will take place 4 October 2013. Donations are greatly appreciated.
