Following weeks of consecutive spikes, the number of daily cases recorded in Greece is dropping.
On Saturday, Greece recorded a total of 901 coronavirus cases while on Sunday the number dropped to 588.
Monday saw another decrease, falling to 526 new cases, 62 fewer than the day before. Currently, there are 505 coronavirus patients intubated in Greece.
However, 85 people diagnosed with Covid-19 passed away on Monday, while 70 lost their lives on Sunday.
The 85 new deaths recorded on Monday bring the total number of fatalities in the country to 4,257. Of all those who lost their lives after suffering from the virus, a total of 1,717 have been female.
The median age of those who passed away with Covid-19 is 79, and 95.7 per cent of them were over the age of 70 or suffered from underlying health issues.
In terms of vaccinations, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be the first to kick off the national roll-out set to begin on 27 December.
The PM plans to receive a Covid-19 vaccine that day, in order to convince the public that the process is safe.
In a meeting with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Mitsotakis said that several government ministries had made a great, collective effort “to make sure that the nationwide immunisation program runs as quickly, effective and safe as possible.”
“[The vaccine] has been approved by all the competent authorities,” Mitsotakis said.
“I have pledged to get the vaccine on the first day it becomes available in Greece,” he said.
Several world leaders have been vaccinated, some on live television, in an attempt to boost public confidence in Covid-19 vaccines.
