The first batch of the 9,750 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 made by Pfizer-BioNTech arrived in Greece late Friday and the first vaccinations are expected to start immediately.
The first to be vaccinated are the people working at COVID referral hospitals in Attica. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou will be vaccinated on Sunday.
On Monday 28 December the vaccine will be distributed to COVID referral hospitals.
The second batch of 83,850 doses of the same vaccine is expected to arrive until December 30,2020.
According to the EU agreement the Pfizer vaccines doses that correspond to the Greek population are another 429,000 until the end of January and another until the end of February another 333.450 doses and until the end of March Greece will have received a total of 1,265,550 doses only from one of the companies (Pfizer-BioNTech).
Greece announces 617 new certified COVID-19 cases and 50 deaths
Τhe National Public Health Organisation announced 617 new certified coronavirus incidents in Greece on Friday, five of them located following tests at the country’s entrance gates.
The total number of certified coronavirus infections in Greece are now 134,852, 52 pct of them men and 5,302 (3.9 pct) of the incidents related to a trip abroad and 39,813 (29.5 pct) with an already known case.
470 people, with median age 67, are intubated. 152 of them are women. 80.2 pct of the intubated have an underlying health issue or are over 70-years-old.
A total of 851 patients have been discharged from Intensive Care Units.
Finally, 50 people died in the last 24 hours raising the total number of deaths in Greece to 1,819 (40,4 percent of them were women). The median age of the dead was 79 and 95.4 pct of them had an underlying health issue or were over 70 years old.
