Despite the coronavirus scare and the public health concerns following a positive visiting Katialo in Oakleigh’s Eaton Mall, many Greek Australian’s chose to receive the New Year at their favourite joints.
A great number of punters visited the Greek hubs establishments, drank, ate, sang and danced till the early morning hours.
Katialo, even though authorities said there was no reason to worry for virus transmission especially following a deep clean on Thursday, was jam-packed with people.

Katialo’s manager Nicole Tsomatska told Neos Kosmos that the venue follows precautions to the letter and will continue to operate normally.

Another highly popular venue for last night, was Kentro, also in Oakleigh. Kentro was so full, many punters took to the street outside to dance 2020 away!
While hundreds of Greek Australians opted to have a New Year’s Eve at their favourite venues, even more saw their plans cancelled last night.
Several events did not go through as planned following the increased number of Covid-19 cases in Victoria but many were those who were forced to un-invite guests.
As government reduced the number of allowed guests at someone’s home to 15 from 30, hosts found themselves in the uncomfortable position of crossing some people off their lists.
