While most states were freezing through the days, the Greek community of Gold Coast was putting on a show yesterday.
The Gold Coast Greek Festival was back again, for the eleventh time, jam packed with Greek themed goodies.
It took place at Evandale Park in Bundall, and it was a chance for more than 3,000 local Greek Australians to get a taste of the motherland again.
Authentic Greek food – a tonne of octopus, loukoumades and nuts amongst others – an on-site Greek taverna serving imported beers and wines, food stalls, traditional Greek music and dances including a Zorba competition, were all part of Sunday’s paniyiri.
The entire Gold Coast community was lured into the park by the smell of gyros and the sounds of the bouzouki.
Families were looked after well, with rides and kids shows, while a Greek band from Sydney was also present to play throughout the day.
The Gold Coast Greek Festival this year was co-chaired by Sandra Voukelatos and Helen Raptis. The Festival is considered to be one of the biggest food and wine festivals in that region of Australia.
