A new plan to ensure transparency in terms of proof of vaccination for Australians has been discussed at length by the federal government with approval expected within weeks.
According to the new program, Australians will carry ‘proof of vaccination’ certificates with them on their smartphone or as hard copies in order to access basic services.
The certificates plan is to be finalised ahead of the scheduled rollout of the coronavirus vaccine and it will be accessed via the Express Plus Medicare app and the MyGov app.
Under the plan, people’s immunisation history statements will display proof of their COVID-19 immunisation status and will be printed in both hard copy and entered in the system electronically.
Australia plans to acquire the coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford which reportedly protects people against a new, more contagious coronavirus variant. As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, in clinical trials, the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine protected all participants against severe illness or death.
In the meantime, Victoria prepared to bring on harsher restrictions in its quarantine hotels even though there have been no cases in three days. Western Australia is nearing a week without community transmission while New South Wales has recorded 20 days free of local coronavirus cases. Returned overseas travellers in the state, however, will be taking an additional test after completing hotel quarantine.
Queensland is still rolling out a great volume of Covid tests while it has recorded 26 consecutive days without local transmission.
