Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni accepted late on Saturday the resignation submitted by the artistic director of the National Theater Dimitris Lignadis.
In his letter, Mr. Lignadis states – among other things – that “we have all seen a toxic climate of rumors, implications, leaks and reports around my face lately without even having an official complaint.”

At the same time, the former artistic director of the National Theater emphasizes that “in contradiction to the interpretations that my move will produce, I must put the welfare of the National Theater in the foreground and protect the institution from endless communication and political tug-of-war. Because the attacks are personal I choose to face them as a person and not hide in the quintet of the National Theater. Moreover, my resignation enables me to continue without any institutional obligation or obligation and to exercise all my legal rights against those who have chosen against me for the sake of convenience. ”
