Nick Kyrgios eventually came through to the next round after an intense and emotional rollercoaster of a match against the rising French talent, Ugo Humbert.
The Australian beat the 22-year-old by 5-7, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 after 3 hours and 25 minutes, on Wednesday evening.
“That was one of the craziest matches I ever played,” he said when he joined Jim Courier for an interview after his triumph. He added how much he drew from the experience of being back on the court and with the crowds after so many months.
“I’ll live to play another day in front of you guys,” Kyrgios said, confiding that there were some very difficult moments in the match against the talented young French player.
Nick Kyrgios’ next opponent is Dominic Thiem, who he will face on the courts, on Friday.
