A driver who rammed into pedestrians on Flinders Street, killing Greek Australian grandfather Antonios ‘Anton’ Crocaris, 83, as lost an appeal for an early release from prison.
Saeed Noori, 37, is serving a minimum of 30 years for the incident which occurred on 21 December 2017, just a few days before Christmas.
His appeal for an early release was denied today.
Mr Noori drove down the busy street and injured 15 people, including a four-year-old boy. Mr Crocaris died from head injuries sustained during the attack.
Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth said it was lucky that Mr Noori had not hurt or killed more people during the incident.
The father of three pleaded guilty to one count of murder, 11 counts or recklessly causing serious injury and five counts of conduct endangering life in 2019.
Justice Hollingworth said Noori’s motivation at the time was based on the belief that he was being spied on by ASIO. He told police the Australian government was racist.
