While his fellow colleagues from the politics’ world attract voters’ attention with televised messages and debates in these pre-election days, Nick Xenophon found a more original way to do the same.
Together with Victorian John Madigan from the Democratic Labour Party, South Australian Independent senator contributed $5,366 each, to have a dining set made in Australia.
The two passionate advocates of Australian manufacturing, senators gifted the nation with a 750-piece dining set, disgusted that Parliament House uses crockery made overseas.
In order to have Australian-made goods in the Parliament’s kitchen, they decided to buy it themselves.
“The nation’s Parliament not using Australian crockery is a complete crock,” Senator Xenophon told Herald Sun.
“I’m looking forward to Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott welcoming this gift and eating off the plates.”
The plates, bowls, saucers and tea cups were made by Pakenham company Robert Gordon Australia with the coat of arms applied by Unique Ceramics in Highett.
