Greek Australian songbird Nicole Condos will be taking to the stage to sing the national anthem next month before a crowd of thousands at three separate grand finals of the Essendon District Football League at the iconic Windy Hill.
Condos, who has grown up watching her own singing idols take to the stage both in Australia and overseas, says she is filled with nerves but is incredibly excited and honoured by this opportunity.
“It’s an honourable opportunity,” Condos tells Neos Kosmos. “I’ve grown up watching my own singing inspirations take to the stage -whether that be Australian or international – and sing the national anthem before a big sporting event. It’s that one part of the game where everyone gets fired up and excited and there is a real adrenalin rush.”
Singing Advance Australia Fair at three footy finals is significant to this local talent, for a number of reasons.
“It’s a combination of many things that are important to me,” she explains.
“Of course I am very proud of my Greek heritage and proud to carry that in our wonderful country, and it’s an opportunity to celebrate not only my heritage but my interest in football and singing.
