Unknown remains the cause of a sudden death of a 16-year-old Greek teenager from Melbourne, who died in her sleep.
The family of Maria Liordos, who passed away on Tuesday 24 September, says the teenager was in perfect health. On the Sunday before her death, she celebrated her birthday with mother Athanasia, brother Constantinos and grandmother Giannoula.
Only a day later, on Monday night, after studying (she was in Year 11 of VCE), Maria went to sleep and never woke up. On Tuesday morning, she was found dead in her bed.
Maria’s inconsolable mother could not find the words to describe her pain.
“I only pray for her to go into the arms of Panagia up there,” she said.
The funeral of Maria Liordos was held on Thursday at the Greek Orthodox Church of St Nicholas in Yarraville.
In the days following Maria’s death, the Facebook page RIP Maria Liordos was flooded with comments and condolences from those who knew the ‘amazing young lady’, including her former teachers.
