A victory for residents of Arthurs Seat – which include thousands of Greek Australians – following an EPA Decision to reject the proposal of a rubbish tip at the old Pioneer quarry on Arthurs Seat in Dromana.

Peninsula Waste Management has decided not to appeal the EPA’s Decision to reject the tip on Arthurs Seat. Ian Vaughan, Ross Trustee and Chairman of PWM, stated there will not be an appeal and that they will withdraw their Planning Permit Application from Council within the next few days.

This follows active lobbying by a group of concerned residents who created the Peninsula Preservation Group Inc. (PPG) to oppose this development and articles in the media including Neos Kosmos, who on Saturday 8 June published the article entitled “Dump sparks outrage on Arthurs Seat“.

One concerned resident, Ilias Salagaras, who lives with his family in Dromana told Neos Kosmos that the proposed site will have a number of adverse affects to not only his property, but the well being of his family, and his two young daughters.

“If this tip is approved we will never gain organic certification,” Mr Salagaras said who moved his family to the rural property 18 months ago to enjoy the basics of life, including living off the land and growing fresh organic food.

A ‘no tip victory party has been organised by the PPG this Sunday 13 October at 2:00 pm at Dromana Football Oval. All families and friends are welcome.
