Two Super League heavyweights, Olympiakos and Panathinaikos will take each other on tomorrow in a blockbuster match for round 10. They both come off impressive wins, beating their Iraklio opponents to boost their ladder positions and proved to be worthy opponents for this week.
Costas Mitroglou took his tally to 12 league goals for the season with his brace against OFI Crete on Sunday, as Olympiakos won 5-1 to maintain its three-point lead over PAOK. Mitroglou also had a penalty kick saved before Jose Holebas, Yiannis Maniatis and Sambou Yatabare made it to the scoresheet, too.
Despite the loss, OFI scored the fastest goal in this season’s league with Andreas Lambropoulos after just 12 seconds, but finished the game with 10 men.
Panathinaikos finally made up for its poor form of late, after it scored its first away win in the league after 34 weeks, beating the so far unbeaten Ergotelis 2-0 at Pankritio on Saturday, to climb to the fourth spot.
The Greens left it late as Luciano Figueroa in the 83rd and Giorgos Koutroubis in time added-on ensured a happy ending for the visitors.
PAOK stayed in second in the Super League with a comfortable win at Panthrakikos. It scored three goals the second time in three days, as it followed up its 3-2 win over Maccabi Haifa for the Europa League with a 3-0 victory in Komotini. Lucas Perez scored twice for PAOK and Panthrakikos’s Pape M’Bow shaped the final score with an own goal. They take on Ergotelis on Sunday, hoping to close the gap between them and ladder leaders Olympiakos.
Atromitos lies five points behind PAOK after downing Xanthi 2-0 away, courtesy of goals by Stefano Napoleoni and Dimitris Papadopoulos.
Platanias also celebrated its first win of the season beating Aris 2-1 away, Asteras Tripolis dismissed Levadiakos 2-0 at home, Panionios came from behind to beat Apollon 2-1 and Veria shared a 2-2 draw with PAS Giannina.
