NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says lockdown is having the “desired effect” despite the state recording 35 new COVID-19 cases — the biggest daily rise in infections this year.

The Premier said the latest figures showed the lockdown, which began a week ago, was “doing what we hoped it would”.

Victoria’s COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar has warned “the hard work isn’t over” after the state recorded a third consecutive day of zero new coronavirus cases.

No cases were detected locally  in Victoria or in international arrivals in the state after 24,247 tests were conducted.

No new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Western Australia as the state exits its snap lockdown.

Premier Mark McGowan said four overseas cases remained active in hotel quarantine.

He praised the 8925 Western Australians who were tested for COVID-19 yesterday.

Mr McGowan also defended the decision to lock down the Perth and Peel regions.

“I remind you all to look at Sydney. I expect their lockdown will go on for a long time,” he said.

Meanwhile Queensland health authorities have updated their list of exposure sites to almost 180, after new local cases of COVID-19 were reported and a snap lockdown, which has since been lifted, was extended for Brisbane and Moreton Bay.

The list of exposure sites in Brisbane continues to grow after a mother and daughter from Carindale returned a positive result.

The mother and  her daughter had visited several locations and among them the Greek Orthodox Community Centre on Monday June 28 and Tuesday June 29
