Victoria recorded no new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday after 20,690 tests were processed, though there were two new cases in hotel quarantine bringing the total active cases in the state to 23.
The St Kilda Riva Bar on Marine Parade was fined more than $10,000 for breaches of COVID-19 restrictions.
Footage emerged of a packed crowd dancing inside a marquee while flouting regulations to prevent the spread of the virus. There was no social distancing or masks being worn by the 1,000 patrons present. A number of guests at the bar filmed the event on their phones and shared it on social media. Staff wore masks but none of the guests did and the venue was overfilled, breaking density limits which currently apply. A police spokesman said that police observed a “blatant breach of the Chief Health Officer’s directions” when they attended the event at 10.15pm on Saturday night.
Victorian health authorities have also warned returned holidaymakers to check to see if they have been in red or orange zones, particularly around Greater Sydney, the Central Coast or areas of Brisbane.
In Sydney, there is concern as the virus spreads with two further residents at Summit Care home, an aged care facility in Baulkham Hills. The facility was placed into lockdown last Friday after an unvaccinated nurse working there tested positive, the second nurse from the facility who has been recorded to have COVID.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that three more residents had the virus.
