The Katafigio community in Anavissos was evacuated on Friday evening, as a fire threatened homes and was aided by winds registering 5 on the Beaufort scale, the Fire Brigade reported.
An evacuation order came soon after the fire broke out at an outdoor venue near the main highway at the coastal town in southern Attica.
The fire is burning near the Lavrion avenue, where traffic has been closed off at the ATE housing settlement.
A force of 40 firefighters, 12 fire engines, 2 ground teams, 4 helicopters and 2 aircraft are all battling the blaze. They are assisted by volunteers and a municipal water supply backup.
