According to New South Wales  Health Authorities, there have been 77 new cases of COVID-19 and one death in the past 24 hours to 8pm, 42 of which, community transmissions.

The new infections were recorded out of 48,000 test results, while Sydneysiders speak of an impeding Malbourne-style lockdown if cases continue to rise. Even though this is a significantly high number of tests for NSW, the state’s Premier said that she wouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow’s numbers were to climb even higher.

“Tomorrow and the few days afterwards will be worse – much worse – than we’ve seen today,” Ms Gladys Berejiklian
said.
“Given the number of people exposed in the community overnight, I’m anticipating the numbers in New South Wales will be greater than 100 tomorrow.”
“When you get COVID, unfortunately those most impacted are those closest to you,” she said adding that  transmission is going through households, friends and colleagues especially in the south-west Sydney region.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 reported death was a 90-year-old woman from the region.

“Tragically we’ve seen one older person die and I want to extend my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,” the premier said urging more people to stay home and get tested even when they suspect symptoms.

“I can’t stress enough that every time we risk breaking the rules or even just going about our business and not getting tested when we need to, the people whose lives and health that we’re risking the most are those closest to us.”

Finally, Victoria has decided to slum-shut the border with NSW while it records its 10th day of no new cases out of 23,000 tests conducted in the past 24 hours. The state has only registered three new infections detected in hotel quarantine; placing the total number of active cases in Victoria to 23.
