More than 2,200 people have been arrested since the start of the year in connection to unpaid debts to the state or other tax offenses, Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias informed the Greek Parliament this week.
The total amount owed by the 2,267 taxpayers arrested between January 1 and September 30 reached just over 9.2 billion euros.
Dendias was responding to a question from independent MP Nikos Nikolopoulos, who claimed that the arrests are just for show and have a limited impact in terms of revenues that are collected by the state.
