A man was fatally wounded in a mafia-style shooting in Exarchia, near central Athens, on Sunday night, according to police the attack was a settling of accounts between Albanian crime rings.
The man was attacked on the junction of Koletti and Themistokleous Streets shortly before 8 p.m. by two assailants who pulled up on a motorcycle, according to witnesses. One of the assailants fired six times at the victim with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, which was found at the scene, while witnesses said the second man stabbed the victim in the back.
The victim was transferred to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police who said he told officers that he was Albanian. Police said they found two firearms — a pistol and a revolver — in the victim’s possession.
