The latest outbreak in the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria has brought with it tragedy to many families in the Greek community.

Among the deaths are four people from within the Greek community whose families spoke with Neos Kosmos, but who wish to remain anonymous while they are still in mourning.

They confirmed that they have lost loved ones to COVID-19.

The deaths concern three men, aged over 70 years, and a woman under the age of 60.

The woman and two of the men had been unvaccinated, whereas the fourth man had been vaccinated with a single dose.

All four of the deceased lived in the north and northwest of Melbourne.

Up until now, there have been 861 COVID-related deaths in Victoria. Of these, at least 154 are members of the Greek community.

According the the statistics, the Greek community of Victoria noted the highest number of deaths than other communities.

Many of the deaths were due to the outbreak last year in the aged care sector, with COVID-19 sweeping through St Basil’s in Fawkner, Epping Gardens and the Grace of Mary Greek Cypriot Nursing home at Epping.
