On 23 September 2021 the 2021 Central Gold Coast Community Volunteer Awards were held at the Nerang Bicentennial Community Centre, Nerang. The Volunteer Awards are organised by Angie Bell MP Federal Member for Moncrieff.

The Volunteer Awards are in recognition of people who give their time to serve and inspire others to enrich their local community.

James Nides, President of the Greek Community of St Anna Gold Coast nominated four hard working volunteers of the Greek Community of St Anna, Gold Coast. They are Maria Botes, Helen Liopyris, Clarence Walker and Cathy Walker.

Maria Botes has served on the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She still manages to find time to volunteer her services in various ways even though she has recently stepped down from the Ladies Auxiliary. She actively assists at all cultural events and functions throughout the year.

Helen Liopyris has served on the Ladies Auxiliary committee since the mid-1990’s. She has also held the position of Vice President for the past 4 years. Helen assists in all community events and functions and fund-raising events held throughout the year.

Clarence Walker has been on the Main Committee of the Greek Orthodox Community as a volunteer for over 20 years. He has also been a volunteer within the church for many years, helping the parish Priest and the general running of the Church. Clarence has helped at all religious and community functions.

Cathy Walker has been a volunteer for the Greek Community for many years. Cathy has been an integral part in the running of the church and undertakes many roles and duties with the church. She has also served on the Ladies Auxiliary, was a Youth Group Facilitator, and has assisted at many community events over the years.
