After a week hiatus for the holidays, Greek soccer fans will be gearing up for an interesting round. Olympiakos has stretched its lead to 10 points at 49, with PAOK trailing behind at 39 and Antromitos in third on 32.

The league leaders are up against a faltering Kalloni, that started off the season in good stead but have struggled to keep momentum. They failed to get any points last match against Ergotelis at home, ending in a 0-0 draw. Olympiakos on the other hand haven’t dropped a game all season, breaking their personal record of 30 consecutive league games unbeaten away from home, and kept the streak going last match after a 5-0 thrashing against Apollon Smirnis. No wonder they’ve locked down top goal scorer Costas Mitroglou till 2017.

With Aris’ abysmal performance, the club has given coach Zoran Milinkovic his marching orders and replaced him with former Soulis Papadopoulos. Aris will take on a tough opponent, Apollon Smyrnis this week, hopefully with a more competitive edge.

PAS Giannina have signed two internationals, Cameroonian winger Franck Songo’o and Spanish midfielder Noe Acosta on 18-month contracts, and will be using their expertise on Monday with their game against Apollon Smyrnis.

Panathinaikos is just two points away from snatching third place, but have to beat Panaitolikos on Sunday with a strong margin to secure the spot.
