Greece registered 6,700 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, exceeding Monday’s record-breaking figure of 5,449. There were also 59 deaths recorded, bringing the total number of deaths recorded in Greece to 16,050 people, with 95.4 per cent of fatalities having an underlying condition or being aged 70 or over.

There are currently 434 patients in ventilators, of which 370 (85.25 per cent) are either unvaccinated or only partly vaccinated. Only 64 (14.75 per cent) are fully vaccinated.

There have been 754,451 infections recorded in Greece since the pandemic began, and 3,324 people in total have been discharged from ICUs since then.

From the new cases recorded in the last seven days, 143 were related to travel from abroad, and 2,568 were related to other confirmed cases.

The highest infection cases were recorded in Larissa (514) and the region of Magnissia (264), while Corfu confirmed 74 cases and Crete’s largest city Heraklion registered 90 cases. Other islands fared better, with Santorini confirming 5 cases and Mykonos registering only 2 cases on Tuesday.
