Defender Michael Eagar has signed a one-year contract with South Melbourne, jumping ship from 2013 season winners Northcote City. Eagar played in Northcote City’s championship winning match against Bentleigh Greens last year, and was one of the team’s best defenders.

The 24-year-old dual New Zealand and Australian citizen has represented New Zealand at both Under 20 and Under 23 levels, and has captained the teams too.

Football Director at South Melbourne Nicholas Maikousis said on their website that “we are very excited to have Michael join the team this season. He played an integral part in Northcote City’s championship year, and will further bolster our defensive options”.

Dandenong Thunder’s Mathew Theodore also jumped ship to join South Melbourne on a one-year-contract, joining up with former coach Chris Taylor.
