NSW confirmed 1,742 new COVID-19 cases over a 24-hour period yesterday, the highest number ever recorded in the state in a day following the 11 September peak at 1,603. There are 192 people in hospital with the virus and 26 people in ICU. No deaths were reported.

The daily figure is higher than Victoria’s 1,622 new COVID-19 infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

This is the first time that the NSW figure has been higher than Victoria’s for a number of months.
