Senator Bob Menendez and Senator Rubio and the US Congress had put a bill forward through Congress titled ‘US-Greece Defence & Inter-Parliamentary Partnership Act’.

The bill was passed on 8 December 2021 with President Joe Biden signing the National Defense Authorization Act into law a few hours ago on Monday, 27 December.

The act will see the authorisation of $768.2 billion in military spending, including a 2.7 per cent pay raise for military service members in 2022.

Meanwhile, the NDAA has also allocated an extra 5 per cent of funds over issues ranging from reforms of the military justice system to COVID-19 vaccine requirements for soldiers. The issue of dishonorable discharges of service members that refuse to receive a COVID-19 vaccine is still under discussion.

Finally, another $300 million will go towards the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative against Russian aggression whereas $4 billion is allocated to the European Defense Initiative.

The bill, that has now become law, includes provisions aimed at bolstering US-Greece defense partnerships.
