The second and most intense ‘Elpis’ weather front is in progress on Monday. Severe weather conditions have hit Greece as of Saturday.
According to the National Metereological Service (EMY), the main characteristics of the second wave will be the very low temperatures, heavy snowfall, even in lowland areas of northern and eastern Greece as well as in the Aegean islands while northerly winds of 8 to 9 Beaufort are expected to blow in the area.
Extreme weather conditions will affect Greece on Monday and Tuesday, when snow is expected even in the plains of the country including Attica region.

Schools will remain closed throughout Attica on Monday and Tuesday, January 24-25, due to the extreme weather conditions for precautionary reasons and taking into consideration the safety of students and professors.
The state has advised citizens to avoid any unnecessary movements.
No metro trains running to Athens airport due to snow
The Athens fixed-rail transport organisation STASY on Monday announced the cancellation of metro services to the Athens international airport due to snow on the tracks. Trains will stop at Doukissis Plakentias station.

Problems were also reported on metro line 1, the electric railway, where trains were running from Piraeus to Irene station and work was underway to remove snow from the section of the line from Irene to Kifissia.
STASY also announced that the tram will temporarily terminate at the Vouliagmenis Avenue station due to the slippery conditions.

TRAINOSE announces cancellation of trains to airport, Halkida
The trains operator TRAINOSE on Monday announced the cancellation of Proastiakos Railway services from the Athens airport to Ano Liosia, as well as trains from Athens to Halkida, due to snow.
