The 2022 Semaphore Greek Festival, the most popular Greek festival in SA, which was scheduled to take place in February 2022 has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

This is the second consecutive year that the Semaphore Festival Organising Committee had to cancel the event due to the continuous high level of COVID-19 cases in South Australia as well as the State’s tight restrictions that are in place and required for an event to take place during the pandemic.

“The success of our Festival is in the way that our Volunteers and Community connect and celebrate our unique Greek Australian identity to inspire and entertain tens of thousands of visitors. Under the current conditions we would not be able to deliver our iconic Festival in a fitting format,” President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Port Adelaide John Douvartzidis told Neos Kosmos.

“Our primary concern must be the health and welfare of our volunteers, artists and participants, staff and audiences.

“Cancelling our Festival is heartbreaking but the only decision possible to support the Community’s efforts to slow the spread of coronavirus. We look forward to bringing you our treasured event in the near future,” he concluded.
