Victoria’s new $200 million quarantine facility is opening on Monday to unvaccinated travellers.

It comes as the state recorded a drop in COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to Saturday morning, with restrictions having been eased across the state since 6pm on Friday.

Victoria recorded 6280 new cases and 20 more deaths, as hospitalisations dropped to 365.

With the state’s hotel quarantine system coming to an end, the more than 560 staff working in hotel quarantine facilities are being employed to run the new purpose-built hub equipped with single, double, family, and accessible rooms for people with mobility issues, all with en-suites.

Guests will also be fed three meals a day with the hubs main focus on ventilation and infection control.

Density limits in hospitality venues have been scrapped, people will no longer need to check-in at supermarkets and retail venues, and dance floors are officially back in both Victoria and New South Wales.

However, in Western Australia, there was another significant jump in new infections as the state’s Omicron outbreak continues to surge with the border opening on 3 March.

  • WA recorded 257 new local infections, while no people are hospitalised yet.
  • NSW has recorded 7615 new infections, down from yesterday’s 9243 and 12 people have died in the state, but hospitalisations have fallen to 1297, 81 of which are in ICU.
