Last Sunday saw the conclusion of the annual conference of the Federation of Cyprus Communities of Australia and New Zealand and of the Pan Australian Coordinative Committee for Justice of Cyprus (PASEKA), that took place at the premises of the Cypriot Parish and Community of St Andrew in Sunshine, Victoria.

In the presence of the High Commissioner of Cyprus to Australia Mr Yiannis Iakovou and of local state MPs and dignitaries from both sides of politics, representatives of the Cypriot Communities in Australia and New Zealand discussed all the major issues that affect the community and the motherland.
The involvement of young people in the affairs of the community, the retention of their cultural identity, issues affecting the seniors, and the expression of support to the people of the crisis hit Cyprus, as well as to the efforts of the Cypriot government to reach an agreement with the Turkish Cypriot side now that the reunification dialogue has resumed, were high on the agenda.

The resolution adopted at the end of the annual conference calls for a just and viable solution to the Cyprus issue and expresses amongst others the appreciation of the community for the continued support Australia gives to Cyprus, and especially for its contribution to the peace keeping forces of the island, since 1964.

The delegates at the conference also decided to renew their effort to put the Cypriot issue on the map of public interest, by placing an emphasis amongst others to the rich cultural heritage of Cyprus.
