The Greek Women of Northern Suburbs ‘Anemones’ came together on Sunday 20 February for a celebratory event marking the bicentennial of Hellenic independence.
The ‘Anemones’ group kicked off their first event for 2022 with a poignant tribute to the many Hellenic women who sacrificed their lives for freedom from the Ottoman Empire. A comprehensive presentation was delivered by guest speaker Dina Gerolymou, who gave an insightful account of women’s contribution during the Greek war of independence.
The presentation, along with songs and poems about that period of Greek history was enjoyed by more than 50 women present.
The group also celebrated its 20th anniversary since its inception, launching a booklet that highlights the history and their achievements.
The afternoon ended with guests mingling over afternoon tea.
