Alexia Apostolakis’ seamless performances have left A-League fans in wonder since 2021, as the 15-year-old girl shows sportsmanship and focus way beyond her years.
A roller-coaster match last Saturday against Newcastle Jets saw her team Western Sydney Wanderers bounce back after conceding a penalty in the second-half.
“It was such an amazing feeling,” said Apostolakis who’s team has endured two consecutive 5-0 defeats before last Saturday’s draw 2-2. “I was really emotional, especially after conceding the penalty.
“It felt really good to get one back and I felt really relieved that I kept going to the end.”
With a last minute goal Apostolakis became the youngest female player to score giving the ‘Wander Women’ team new motivation heading into a match against Wellington Phoenix.
“We were really fighting until the end in this one so it was really disappointing to let that goal in,” Apostolakis who on Wanderers FC admitted the losses were extremely difficult for her team.
“It was a team effort, our coach was really into it and our team was really into it so hopefully we win the next round.”
When Apostolakis kick started her career on 27 December 2021 she was the third youngest A-league woman starter for more than three years following the footsteps of another two outstanding Greek Australian women:
- Angelique Hristodoulou – 15 years and 85 days old made her debut on 11 December 2016
- Nia Stamatopoulos – 15 years and 96 days old began her career on 28 October 2018 for MCY
- Alexia Apostolakis – the 2nd-youngest WSW starter ever at 15 years and 225 days old
