Panagiotis Panos Anninos – son of the late Dimitrios Anninos, former Greek Consul General in Melbourne and Greek Ambassador to New Zealand – is raising funds for the victims of Kefalonia’s recent earthquakes,in honour of his late father
Kefalonia was recently hit by two powerful earthquakes and many of its people helplessly witnessed the destruction of their livelihood, properties and dreams. They now live in cars, cruise ships, shelters and with the fear of a new powerful earthquake. Many homes and buildings have been deemed uninhabitable among them vital infrastructure such as schools and hospitals. Furthermore, ports and parts of road networks have been severely damaged.
“To help my fellow Kefalonians, and considering that these unfortunate events coincided with 15 February 2014, that marked one year since the unexpected loss of our beloved father and husband, in loving memory of Ambassador Dimitrios Anninos (of Kefalonian origin) we wanted to raise money which will be sent to a non-profit organization aiming for the immediate relief of the earthquake victims of Kefalonia,” Panos Anninos told Neos Kosmos.
The amount collected will be allocated to the schools of the affected areas of the Municipality of Palliki, supplying the students with technological tools that a modern school provides – personal computers/laptops, tablets, printers and other equipment. The procedure will be followed in full transparency.
Until now, $6,105 was raised in 21 days only. The goal of the fundraiser is set on $25,000 to be raised in next two weeks.
