Aris has delivered the upset of the season, launching a special comeback to hand Olympiacos their first league loss in the final round of the regular season.
The Thessalonians came from behind to record a sensational 2-1 home victory over the Piraeus giants in the Hellenic championship’s 26th round, putting them in great spirits as they progress to the Championship round.
Olympiacos striker Youssef El Arabi put his side ahead early into the match (13’) which was cancelled out by striker Aboubakar Kamara (52’).
Aris midfielder Bruno Gama put his club in front with a well-placed free kick (79’) to bring his club the biggest three points of the season.
OFI has come out on top to secure the final play-off place, beating Apollon Smyrnis 2-0 in Crete thanks to goals from defender Praxitelis Vouros (64’) and striker Luiz Phellype (71’) to jump ahead of Asteras Tripolis and Giannina.
AEK ruined Asteras Tripolis’ season with a 2-1 win at home, handing their opponents their third straight loss which saw them fail to procure their place in the top six. Enosi struck first after forward Sergio Araujo’s finish deflected in off goalkeeper Nikolaos Papadopoulos (24’) but the Arcadians brought it level through a Jeronimo Barrales header from a free kick (56’). Centre half Georgios Tzavellas headed AEK back into the lead to send the opposition into the Relegation round.
Giannina was held to a 0-0 draw away to Volos, squandering their golden opportunity to take the final top six spot.
PAOK handed Lamia their seventh straight loss in a comfortable 0-2 away victory, with goals coming from winger Leo Jaba’s tidy finish (37’) and Giannis Michailidis’ header from a corner (52’).
A brace from winger Sebastian Palacios powered Panathinaikos to a 0-2 success away to Atromitos, giving the ‘Trifylli’ their fifth win in their last six games. Greens Winger Aitor fluffed a great chance to put his club in the lead after directing his penalty onto the crossbar (56’) but Palacios stepped up with a quickfire brace to take his league goal tally to ten. His first came through a composed tap-in (75’) while his second saw him release a wonderful finish into the bottom right from just inside the edge of the box (77’).
A late winner helped Panetolikos down Ionikos 1-2 in Nikaia to reach five matches unbeaten. Forward Nikos Karelis’ half-volley from close range put the Agrinio side ahead (32’) when Ionikos equalised late through substitute winger Reinaldo Lenis (82’).
