South Melbourne used an early lead to smash fellow Greek club, Heidelberg United 3-0.
The opening derby match for round 1 of the new National Premier League in Victoria drew more than three thousand people to Olympic Stadium and didn’t disappoint.
It took just 12 minutes for South Melbourne’s Mathew Theodore to open scoring, and helped Milos Lujic ten minutes later with the second goal.
Feeling a little deflated, Heidelberg struggled to convert their possession in the second half into goals and had goalkeeper Griffin McMaster working hard to keep the score down.
With just a couple of minutes left on the clock, South Melbourne clinched the result when Jamie Reed rose high above the Heidelberg defence to head in yet another début goal on the night.
