Four protestors at the centre of the incident with MP Geoff Shaw outside Victoria’s Parliament in October, appeared at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The defendants – John Zammit, John Campobaso, Natalia Popov and 74-year-old taxi licence holder Konstantinos Mandikos – appeared accused of assault and using insulting words.
The four – who were protesting against the Victorian Government’s new taxi industry laws when the affray took place – were allegedly involved in a fracas on the steps of Parliament House with the former Liberal Member for Frankston.
Oakleigh Lawyer Stefen Kourkoulis who is representing the defendants told Neos Kosmos that Tuesday’s case assessment conference was unable to deliver a final resolution, and that the case would return to court in around two months time.
“There was no final resolution because the position of the parties is so polarised,” said Mr Kourkoulis.
“We’re not entirely in agreement with the prosecution as to where these charges stand and the basis of them, and we’re fighting them.”
