A day after his scheduled meeting with US president Joe Biden at the White House next month, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been invited by US House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, to address US Congress, in a joint meeting of the US Senate and the House of Representatives.

The address is scheduled on 17 May, 11:00 Eastern Time, according to Greek government sources, who also state that Mitsotakis is the first Greek prime minister to address Congress, and that it is uncommon for foreign leaders to be granted this opportunity.

Mitsotakis’ visit and his speech comes at a critical time globally, and highlights Greece’s significant role in its broader region and the level of Greece-US relations.
