The Australian Hellenic Memorial School Competition 2022 is open to Victorian students of schools where the Greek language is taught.
The president of the Australian Hellenic Foundation Melbourne Steve (Anastasios) Kyritsis OAM said the competition which was first launched in 2011 was open to all students from Year 1 to Year 12. The aim of the competition was to inspire students to learn of the events and history of Greece during World War Two which was the reason for the establishment of the Australian Hellenic Memorial in Melbourne.
“Students can write a story of the War, write a poem, draw a picture of soldiers, or an essay, anything that relates to the Greek Campaign and the ANZACs in Greece,” Mr Kyritsis said.
There are cash prizes ranging from $50 up to $250 for winning entries and all students who take part in the competition, will receive a badge of the Memorial and a Certificate of Participation.
Entries are open until 14 September and the winners and awards will be made in a ceremony at the Australian Hellenic Memorial itself on 16 October.
The competition is supported by the educational affairs office of the Greek Consulate in Melbourne.
