It’s all about the boys once again as Greece readies young dance duo Freaky Fortune and rapper Riskykidd for the 2014 Eurovision contest.
In two weeks, all eyes will be on Copenhagen as it hosts the contest, with Greece hoping to grab an even higher ranking than last year’s sixth place.
Who could forget the kitschness of Koza Mostra and the legend Agathonas Iakovidis blasting out Alcohol is Free?
This year, the Balkan sounds are replaced with hard electro beats as Nicolas Raptakis and Theofilos Pouzbouris of Freaky Fortune hope to get Europe dancing.
The Greek duo got worldwide attention when they won Perez Hilton’s cover competition, covering Katy Pery’s Part of Me.
Their song Rise Up was chosen this year out of four finalists, and features London rapper Riskykidd to appeal to a wider audience.
Greece’s participation in the contest was up in the air until November last year, when a caretaker national broadcaster was set up in ERT’s demise.
Unfortunately, Cyprus announced last year it will not participate in the contest, with its own public broadcaster bowing to budget cuts implemented due to the country’s financial crisis.
Greece, who has entered the competition 34 times and won once, will be placed in the second semi-final, and will have to place in the top ten in order to qualify for the final on 10 May 2014.
