Heidelberg’s finals ambitions to be challenged by Port Melbourne

Heidelberg will have to summon all their strength this weekend when they come up against Port Melbourne, with “Megas” fighting desperately to secure their place in the finals.

“Alexandros” goes into the 21st round of the Victorian NPL in a precarious position, only one point ahead of seventh, where they will have to battle a tough third-placed Sharks outfit.

Bentleigh Greens (currently seventh) have a much easier match in contrast, hosting bottom-placed Eastern Lions on Friday night, and they will be sure to earn maximum points in order to regain their top six spot.

Oakleigh travels to Avondale on Saturday afternoon as the Cannons strive to keep pushing for the premiership, with the visitors still only two points off of the league leaders.

Port Melbourne takes on Heidelberg at home on Saturday evening and, despite being higher on the ladder, the Sharks will have to be wary of their opponents who have gone eleven matches unbeaten.

South Melbourne faces Dandenong Thunder at home, with “Hellas” needing a win to protect their slim two-point gap in first.

Floreat Athena is looking to record their fifth successive victory in their 16th round home fixture against Cockburn City, with the league leaders still only two points clear.

Olympia Warriors travels away to Glenorchy Knights in a 13th round clash on Saturday afternoon, and the visitors will have to muster all their strength if they hope to earn their third win this season.
